Volunteer Opportunities

Serving nearly 500 people per weekday, we need volunteers to help with a variety of services.
Volunteer times are M-F, between 8:00 & 12:00 and Sunday morning, 6:30-8:30*.

All volunteers at our Fannin Street facility must be 18 years or older.
I Would Like to Volunteer
*Sunday morning volunteering is at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1015 Holman Street, across from Lord of the Streets.

Meal Team - Help serve weekday meals as well as breakfast on Sunday mornings.
Monday-Friday, 8:00-9:45 a.m. (end time is approximate)
  • Meal Prep: Help prepare and/or package 400 hot meals or sack lunches and snack packs for our Meal Distribution team to distribute to our neighbors.
  • Meal Distribution: Greet our neighbors and distribute hot meals, sack lunches, or snack packs along with bottled water.
Sunday, 6:30 - 8:30 a.m.
In conjunction with Trinity Church, across the street from LOTS, we have a worship service with breakfast afterwards. Volunteers cook and serve breakfast, and they assist with worship.
  • Cook Team: 6-8 person teams cook eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and biscuits with our kitchen manager.
  • Breakfast Serve Team: 12-15 person teams prepare the space and serve breakfast and coffee after worship.
  • Worship Teams: Individuals and/or teams assist in setting up and resetting the space after worship, as well as greet give hospitality to our parishioners.

Mail, Front Desk, and More - These roles are essential to our serving more than 400 homeless neighbors each weekday.
Times are between 8:00 a.m. and noon - specific hours can be arranged.
  • Mail Distribution: Retrieve mail from filing system and distribute to our neighbors.
  • Front Desk: Answer phones, provide referrals to area agencies as needed, greet our neighbors, and generally help with basic office tasks.
  • Clean Team: Help LOTS be a good neighbor to the surrounding community! Work with other volunteers, including some who are homeless, to remove trash from the property, the streets, sidewalks, shrubs, and storm drains where trash unfortunately is too often discarded.
  • Extra Hands: LOTS always has need for additional hands (picking up pre-ordered supplies for example).

Clothing & Hygiene Center - Serve our neighbors behind the scenes or in person.
Times serving in our clothing room vary by day and activity.
  • Clothing & Hygiene Teams: (Wed. & Thurs., 9:00-11:00)*
    • Be with our neighbors in our clothing room as they choose new sets of clothing as well as hygiene items or kits. You get to directly welcome and serve our neighbors.
  • Sorting & Stocking (Mon.-Fri., 8:00-noon)
    • Sort and size clothing donations and hygiene items, and stock the clothing room to be ready for our neighbors.
    • This is more of a behind the scenes ministry and essential for our neighbors to receive the clothing they need.
*We can open the clothing room on additional days if we have teams to run them - Contact Thania about assembling a team.

Prayer & Conversation - Pray directly with neighbors, join Bible studies, and pray for LOTS' neighbors, staff, and leadership.
Times vary by day and activity:
  • Bible Study: (Tuesday @ 10:00 & Thursday @ 11:00)
    • Our Bible studies are led by staff, volunteers, and parishioners. You can join and/or seek to lead a study.
  • Morning Prayer: (Friday @ 10:00)
    • Beginning the day with prayer and song. Come pray with our parishioners and form relationships for ministry.
  • Prayer Team: (Thursday @ 9:30)*
    • Pray directly with neighbors and/or intercede for written requests from LOTS' neighbors, and for staff and leadership.
  • Praying Off-Site:
    • You can do this at home, work, school, etc. Contact Fr. Brad to be a part of this prayer team.
*You can choose a different time to bring a team and pray with folks - Contact Fr. Brad to arrange this.

What You Will Need:
  • A willing heart and an open mind.
  • Leave any prejudice, assumptions, and judgement at home.
  • Commit to honor the absolute confidentiality of all client information.
  • Discipline to not give rides or money to clients...even when your heart tugs on you to do so.
I am interested in volunteering.

Combining life-saving relief with life-giving relationships.
