Juneteenth, LOTS, and liberation

Stories of Liberation, Resilience, and Justice

IMAGES IN THE MURAL
On the left is the Juneteenth flag, created by Ben Haith, Lisa Jeanne Graf, and other collaborators in 1997.
  • The Star represents the state of Texas, where in 1865, enslaved people in Galveston were finally informed of their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation. The star also represents freedom for African Americans in all 50 states.
  • The Burst around the star represents a new star, a new beginning for African Americans.
  • The Arc, the curve across the flag, represents a new horizon, the opportunities given by liberation and justice.
  • The Red, White, and Blue are the colors of America, a reminder that all slaves and their descendants were and are Americans. The colors remind us of America's promise of liberty and justice for all.

LIBERATION & LORD OF THE STREETS (LOTS)
LOTS restores and rebuild lives through ministries and relationships with people facing homelessness. We work for social justice with people facing homelessness; we celebrate the resilience they show, and together, we all work toward liberation...liberation from homelessness, economic injustice, addiction, isolation, and an often loss of our humanity.

WHAT ARE YOUR STORIES?

We all have stories of liberation, resilience, and justice. Please share yours here, and we can publish them on our blog and in our social media posts. Stories can be anonymous.
