LOTS Vision Clinic

Spending all one's time on the street can play havoc with one's eyes.  LOTS has a vision clinic that is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It's a three step process:

1. A technician will take a preliminary reading of your eyes and measure the correction required.  Through generous donations LOTS has an inventory of glasses that are given as loaner glasses, so potentially,  you will have a pair of temporary glasses when you leave.
2. In conjunction with the University School of Optometry, LOTS provides a client with a free voucher to visit a doctor at UH.  Here you will get a complete eye exam and a prescription for corrective lenses.
3. When you return to lots with the prescription from UH, LOTS will provide you with a voucher for a new pair of glasses.  These vouchers are redeemable at several local retailers.

It's a great program that has about a 75% completion rate of people who enter the program get new glasses.

Project Access bus

Project Access is a regularly scheduled, no charge transportation service for homeless individuals. It is a program of Healthcare for the Homeless – Houston and is designed to help homeless Houstonians travel to and from organizations that provide essential services such as health care, meals, shelter, and social services.
